so, today is christmas eve. the day before christmas. would you agree that it makes sense for there to be some visible excitement in the air? i can't find it in the levels i think i should be able to easily find.
as you might know, i work in retail so i talk to plenty of people all day. today, there were a lot of grumpy people. yes, you heard me right, grumpy people on christmas eve. and you know what they did, they took out all the grumpy-ness on me and my fellow co workers. i'm sorry but it is not my fault that you pushed your christmas shopping off until the last minute and no we no longer have your size. what did you expect me to do, save some just in case? it's christmas eve, we should all be excited. tomorrow is the day where you spend it surrounded by the people who matter most in your life. that's good enough reason for me to look forward to it.
but what i've noticed this year is that there's really not a lot of christmas spirit going around. i have come to two reasons as to why i think this is true. reason number one: high school. in elementary school there was always a lot of hype coming into the christmas season. we had christmas parties and did christmas activities all day. we used to look forward to christmas and having break was just an added bonus for us. now in high school it seems to be the reverse. everyone is looking forward to break with christmas being the added bonus. teachers are rushing to get assingments and tests in before break, hoping that we won't forget what we've learned while we're on break. reason number two: political correctness. we're so obsessed with political correctness that we are now scared to say things like merry christmas while out in public for fear that we're going to offend someone. we are on winter break, because christmas break is for to politically incorrect and holiday break just isn't correct either. p.s. i don't care. i told everyone have a merry christmas today and if they didn't like it too bad.
the holiday spirit is missing. i'm not a fan of this. i like the holidays.
